I Build, not Close

Earlier today, Eng Hai reminded me why, as a Networker, I am not a sales person, but a people builder.

I was researching for ways to prospect for recruits for my organization on the internet, during which I chanced upon a forum post about "an automated prospecting system": Apparently some forum members were discussing the probability of having a unified system which automatically 'harvests' and qualifies prospect even when we aren't looking. I was thrilled: at last, a way to recruit lots of people with minimal effort! So I told Eng Hai.

"That's a good idea", he agreed, "what we now need, though, is not a new system of doing things, but more success stories from what happens after people sign up."

And Eng Hai's absolutely right about that. You see, what keeps our business going profitably isn't the number of people we bring in; it's the number of people who sticks on and succeed after joining us that counts.

This means that they have got to make money first before we do. Just simply signing up as a member isn't enough. Maybe it is for sales people of products who get one-off commissions, but Networkers like us make profits from having sustained, positive activities in our network. So when we tell our new recruits "I want to help you succeed", we really mean it :)

And so, we are a people-building business; building them to be confident, building them to be positive, and finally building them into leaders, who will then go on to build other people.

I suppose I will eventually look into setting up a self-qualifying prospecting system, yet I will never, ever, forget why I am prospecting: to help the people who wants to make life better, have their lives made better.

That's almost the only way to do this business.

David Card has done it again!

Yesterday, the South East Asian Regional VP and GM of Unicity Singapore unveiled Autoship Online, a new internet service for members/distributors to make purchases on the internet and have it delivered right to our door step!

We're all very excited, because what this means is that we can now sit back at home, and make any amount of purchases in the comfort of our living rooms :) And this is especially good for people who dislikes travelling down to get their monthly supplies for their families. For many of us, its what we've been asking to have, and now our dreams have come through :)

A major idea behind the unveiling of the service, as disclosed by David, was the idea of Cocooning.

This was an idea taken from "The Popcorn Report" by marketing futurist Faith Popcorn. According to her, more and more people are taking to staying at home. We've now got home theatre systems, bar fridges, all all those things that make our lives more comfortable that we don't really need to get out of our homes to say, catch a movie, or have a fix of our favorite coffee beverage from StarBucks. Chances are, we can both watch a movie and have our favorite drink at the same time, while sitting in our favorite couch! :)

So now we have products available at the click of the button, so everyone can rejoice! People who are in it for business can now be assured that their customers can get their products easier through the internet; the "hassle of travelling" is no longer an obstacle. And for those of us who just wants to enjoy the products, sit back on your couch and have it delivered to you! ;)

For me, I'm going to have all my favorite skincare, and those oh-so-necessary favorite beverages like the Reishi Coffee and Noni fruit juice (to have when I'm watching my DVD collections) sent right to my door-step. Ah! This is life!

Its great to be working with leaders with foresight. :)

Meet Lim Eng Hai


I've mentioned him so many times in my articles, and quoted him so many times in my conversations; now ladies and gentlemen, please meet my mentor and business partner, Lim Eng Hai!

If you feel like you've seen him before, you're probably right: Eng Hai has appeared on numerous interviews on Channel News Asia and financial programs like Money Mind. He has an impressive track record in the stock broking world, first as the former Director of Research in JM Sassoon, and then the CEO of SIAS (Security Investors Association of Singapore) Research.
He's widely respected in the world of investment, and generally regarded as an expert in the field.

Yet there is another side of Eng Hai that the world hasn't yet been fully exposed to: he is a coach to people who wants to make their lives better, and a very good one at that :)

I first met Eng Hai in 2002, when I was a web designer. Back then, I was a shy, socially inept young boy, and I was starting to experience burnout from my work as a designer. I wanted to do "something better" than designing, and make more money, yet I didn't know where to start. Eng Hai offered to show me how I could do "a big business with little capital": Network Marketing with Unicity.

So for the next 2 years, I followed Eng Hai closely, eager to learn the ropes of building up my networking career. And Eng Hai was a very patient teacher: because of my shy, retiring nature, talking to people was a major challenge to me, and yet that was what I had to do as a Networker. I was told, at some point, one of Eng Hai's contemporaries, who was a HR trainer, said that my case was too difficult and he wouldn't spend that much time helping me. But Eng Hai was adamant: "So long as he wants it, I will continue to help him."

As long as someone wants to become better than they already are in life, Eng Hai is willing to Empathize, Engage, Empower, Encourage, and as a result of their growth, Enrich their lives. This is what he calls the 5Es, and he's been helping people achieve breakthroughs with it. Under his tutelage and guidance, I have become a confident, driven young man - a far cry from the shy boy that I used to be! I would never have thought this change possible, as with the HR trainer. He helped me see the potential I had within myself :)

Eng Hai is generally well-known and popular with the people who knows him. In Team Rich, the team we belong to, he's regarded as one of the best trainers and speakers around. When an event requires a high powered emcee, he's always the first candidate that comes to mind. Walking with him in commercial areas, like Raffles Place, can be quite an experience: there'll always be someone on the streets, or in the cafe, or around the offices that would know Eng Hai, sometimes by reputation too! And I tell myself "Wow, I want to be popular like that too, someday."


To me, Eng Hai is almost like an icon for empowerment, and its truly an honor for me to be mentored by him. Thank you for the care and guidance, Eng Hai! Here's to many more years of fun and partnership in business. Cheers!
