If you think you're born into mediocrity, and being 'special' is someone else's god-given priviledge, think again:

" And every Master has likewise had the same message: What I am, you are. What I can do, you can do. These things, and more, shall you also do. "
- God, from the bestselling book Conversations with God

That Much to Learn, So Much to Create

Having read my previous article on Magic Questions, fellow business-mate Lilian asked me, "So did you go for AsiaWorks?" I had been contemplating on attending the well-known personal development course early 2006.

"I paid for a deposit, but I haven't gone for it yet" I shrugged.

"Why not? Because of the questions they were asking you?" Well of course not! I'm not that petty!

"Nah, I just thought I'd just get out of my 'perpetual student' phase, and move on to a new phase. There's only that much to learn, and so much to create."

Wow, I suprise myself sometimes.

There's been a time when all of us has to learn - just as babies learn to walk. Being fresh to the world, they had no idea they could do that kind of thing with their lower limbs. Wow, I could do that and walk upright? They'd say, if they could talk at all (but talking is a different set of lessons altogether!).

After all the practice, and lots of hand holding, little junior begins to to get the hang of balancing, and his parents give a jubilant cheer! In a couple of years, he will begin to start running; add yet another three years or so, he'll be doing something as complex as cycling; and throw in another eight years into the mix, he'll be doing complex dance moves at the disco to woo the chicks. Yes, Junior here will move on to achieving great things. And these things begin with his learning.

Yet within these many phases of Junior's life, there must be some point where he's got to stop learning and start doing. Imagine mommy holding his hands as his little toddler feet struggles to place themselves one before the other (don't laugh, it was hard for all of us at some point). He finds his feet getting in the right place and thinks, hey, I'm getting it! Mommy notices, and lets go of his hands with a smile.

What happens now?

If Junior thinks, no no, Mommy can't let go yet, I've got too much more to learn from her hand holding. I'm not ready. His legs give way and he plonks down on the floor, waiting for Mommy to hold his hands again.

Thankfully, most toddlers don't make that kind of a decision: they just keep doing, and trying, whether or not Mommy is there to hold their hands. Even as Mommy is away cooking, they are crawling about, and flexing their feet and exploring themselves: they are finding it within themselves to accomplish what they wanted to do. And after a while, they are standing on their own two feet, grinning as Mommy and Daddy snaps pictures of him "for memories".

On the flipside, if Junior needed Mommy all the time, the doctors would pronounce Junior as a physically undeveloped child, doom him to the life bounded in a wheelchair, and thereby losing his destiny of being the suave dancer picking up chicks at a disco.

Many of us forget this amazing mindset of constantly doing & being we possessed as babies; I've observed young business people who do all this amazing learning from all those great people out there, and learn great stuff from their mentors. Yet they rarely move on from learning - and re-learning - the basics of what makes their business tick. They just keep re-learning, and re-learning, and re-learning. So instead of making money, they become a perpetual student.

"I'm not making money. I'd better go back and learn some more." They say. I should know. I've said that kind of thing before!

We're in a blessed age where there are multitudes of information available at our fingertips. Yet the business people of old would scoff at us and go "Bah!" Afterall, they made their millions finding these wisdom from within themselves. Most of you know I make money from my business in Networking. My mother has been a direct seller almost all her life. While I revel in intricate ideologies of mindset building, leveraged incomes and all, she wastes no time in discussing them with me. Instead, she just goes out and sells her wares. And she easily makes more money than I do in a shorter time!

Neale Donald Walsch shares this best in his book, "Conversations With God". Neale asks God "What is the lesson I have to learn in this Life?"

And God tells him "Your purpose in this Life is not one of learning. You are here to experience yourselves as who you are."

We're not here to be students. We're here to create things that will let us experience ourselves as who we are. You know, deep inside, you're a good looking guy (or gal) who runs a great business, owns a fast car, a beautiful house with a family and lifestyle that people would die for. To experience that, we need to put in our energy and focus to creating all that - the good looks, the business, the fast car and the beautiful house and family. Learning from other's experiences would certainly speed things up alot - but that's not to be confused with our sole purpose here; to create.

Learn enough, and then, start creating your Life as it should be - NOW!
