If you think you're born into mediocrity, and being 'special' is someone else's god-given priviledge, think again:

" And every Master has likewise had the same message: What I am, you are. What I can do, you can do. These things, and more, shall you also do. "
- God, from the bestselling book Conversations with God

How Much is Good Advice Worth to You?

I just looked back at my last post and realised that it has been a little more than a month since I talked about my life. The truth was that I was in a little rut.

Since late august/early september, I've made it known that I wanted to be among the elites of the Business Builder's Club: a hall of fame for elite achievers who have performed with sustained results. We needed to sign up 10 new candidates in the span of 3 months to be part of the club.

And I had a head start too. In September, I personally signed up 7 new candidates into my organisation, which effectively pushed me ahead of the game. With 3 more to go, I was probably the closest in Team Rich to hit my 10 sign-ups. People started noticing me, and Regional VP David Card personally told me that "he'd be watching my progress". What an honor!

Then something happened in October. For some reason, I could not find any new candidates to join me, and I had zero sign ups for the whole month. So far yet so close - can this be fated? Nothing that I did seem to make a difference. I thought that was it for me.

My mentor, Eng Hai, came along and assessed the situation.
"Why are you sabotaging yourself when you're so close to your success?" He said.

"What do you mean, so close to my success? I'm not even performing as well as I should!" I replied heatedly.

"Why are you so unkind to yourself? You're closer than so many people to hitting the business builder's club, and you chose to focus on the negative?"

And so, we had a heated little debate at MOS burger, though I suspected that I was the only one who was heated up. Eng Hai was probably just baiting me on, so that I could lose some steam :)

When I cooled down, I experience a little Aha! moment:
Do you know how some people tend to say the opposite of what they really want, because they think if they do say it, they won't get it? Its like there's this metaphysical policeman going around giving people a hard time, and making sure they get just the exact opposite of what they want!

People tend to do that because many of us really feel that we don't deserve success. Its like we don't feel we're good enough to get what we want, or that we haven't done enough, even if in reality, we're just about to make it. It's a crazy mindset, but it happens to so many people that it's probably the single most important thing that has to be changed in order to succeed in anything we do!

"Its time for you to be positive about yourself and your progress" Eng Hai urged me.

So what was that advice worth to me - supposing that I took it seriously?

Here's what it's worth:

I've made it to the Business Builder's Club - with not 10 new sign-ups, but 11! By next month, my photo will be up on the Hall of Fame! Next thursday, I and the others who have made it into the Business Builder's Club will be having dinner at the Ritz Carlton Hotel with Aaron Webber, the CEO of Unicity International, who will fly down to Singapore specially to grace this occasion. David Card, of course, will be there as well.

And because I am the youngest member of the Business Builder's Club, I have been chosen to be featured in the next monthly publication!

I got more than I expected because I took good advice seriously. So here's what Good Advice is worth: far more than you can ever believe possible.

Stuck in a rut? Go out and look for Good Advice :)

(p/s: if you're wondering about the first picture above, its from a an advertisement board I saw as I walked along the streets a few days ago. It's like someone's giving me guidance through these signs!)
